About Google Earth Models:

If you’re a model geek like me, then you will enjoy a modeling program created by Google called SketchUp.

SketchUp is free to download and start learning in moments.

To view current existing models in 3D, go to Google Earth 3D and download it. Yes, it’s free.

Once you have done so, launch the 3D application and you can view and explore a virtual earth in 3D. Make sure you check the 3D and terrain boxes when starting to view. That’s it!

To view my models and lots more from other geeks like me, you can go to Google Earth 3D and search for SketchUp and down load it. Yes, it’s free too.

Launch Google Earth 3D and you can retrieve SketchUp from there.

If you want to start building models to submit to the Google Earth guru’s, you’ll need to open a 3D Warehouse account in SketchUp. It’ll guide you through the process, but if you already have a gmail account, you’ll be ready to go much quicker.

OK, if you’ve read this far it’s safe to say that you are a geek too. Cool!

Once you’re in 3D Warehouse and signed in, enter search and type in the name of my particular model you want to view and it’ll come up along with all my other models. Select view in Google Earth and it will launch you to the location for viewing.

It’s all pretty easy and user friendly, but most of all fun. The tutorials are decent and do help a lot.

You can make a model as complex or as simple as you desire.

If you want to submit your masterpiece to Google Earth, SketchUp will tell you how to, but do read the rules before you sweat out a great work of art for submission.

Enjoy.
